What is the purpose of this research?

Focus Group Discussions (FGD) will help our research team in further understanding how young people of Pacific Islander, North-East and South-East Asian backgrounds understand and use health information, and how they manage their health and interact with doctors and other healthcare providers, and what (if any) changes are needed within policy/service delivery to support young people from diverse backgrounds make informed decisions about their health, including their sexual health.

What will you ask me to do?

In this study, we will run through different scenarios ranging from various different topics relating to sexual health. The discussions will take approximately one hour, and will be guided by two of our Peer Researchers.

We will ask you to participate in a 60-minute group discussion with people of a similar age, background and gender. We will present a short story about a young person discuss what you think the young person should do, where they should go for information, what support he/she/they might have and other supports they may need. The discussion facilitators will also be similar age, background and gender as you.

Will I be compensated for my time?

Should you participate in FGD, there is a $30 gift card from eGift Australia for you.

Privacy and confidentiality

Your participation, privacy and confidentiality is important to us. Therefore, if at any time during the discussion, you may not feel comfortable in the discussions taken place, we will allow you the right forfeit participation. Please also note, that the discussions will only be recorded (audio and note-taking only) for the purpose of this study, your personal and other information throughout this research will not be shared with those outside of the research team.
